In May of 2023 (at age 63!), I graduated with a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology (MFT Program) from the University of San Francisco (GPA 3.99/4). USF's mission to help "the least of these" while promoting social justice connected well with my previous career as an educator, who specialized in teaching divergent learners while integrating history, literature and the arts.Before my current position as a Family Therapist with Newport Healthcare, where I work with severely suffering adolescents and young adults in residential treatment, I spent the first 2 years of my "retirement" as an Addiction Counselor and MFT-T at Serenity Knolls, a residential addiction treatment center in Forest Knolls, California.I also have a personal background as a tutor of youth with learning disabilities, high school and college English students, and as a mentor of student and beginning teachers.In 2001, after a period of study with priest Jisho Warner, I formally received the Bodhisattva Precepts of Soto Zen, and daily practice to realize the way of selflessness and lovingkindness.
