My family has been involved in the state of Montana and National politics for years. My father was in the Montana House of Representatives for 8 years and chair of Taxation. He was in the State Senate for 12 years and chair of Taxation. My brother was in the State House of Representatives for 4 years. I have been a Prairie County Commissioner since January of 1995. I was a member of the Prairie County Planning Board prior to being a commissioner. We didn't talk about the weather over breakfast!We ranch for a living. We raise beef cattle, cash crops, and hay. Our beef cattle are noted for their superior genetics and smaller frames.And, finally ...... I am considered an expert nationally on the Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) program that compensates local governments for federal exempt properties within their local jurisdictions. I have put on workshops and presentations at the request of the United States Department of Interior and the National Association of Counties.
