Technology leadership is undergoing an unprecedented transformation in today’s companies. I say technology leadership because this is no longer a discussion about IT leadership.Technology is now an asset that is owned across the company. There are a few areas where this is most apparent:1. The Cloud: Adoption of cloud-based software solutions is on the rise. As companies adopt solutions run entirely in the cloud, the management of those solutions is rightfully taken by the corporate team that benefits from them. This changes the role of traditional IT into that of a consultant helping these teams manage these solutions. 2. Data driven decisions: Especially in CPG companies, the effective use of internal and external data is essential to making relevant and timely decisions at all levels. Like technology, data is an enterprise asset. Again, IT has an opportunity to bring new tools and rigor to the ingestion and use of data.3. Operations: Traditionally, CIO’s would have been concerned with IT Operations. Operations is also an enterprise function including the people, process, and technology used to manage the health of the organization. CIO’s now need to look at the use of technology across the company to improve the operational effectiveness of the company.
