Staylinked's call was that early aughts wireless networks were the source of countless disruptions between wireless scanners and AS/400 applications. They saw an opportunity. Let's fix the disconnect problem with a better Telnet architecture, and thus StayLinked was born. I joined to develop the client-side solution while veteran staff member and AS/400 guru Mark McGary tackled the server engine. As a developer and manager, I led projects that helped WorldxChange grow into an international carrier during the frenzied 90's telecommunication boom. • Chief architect of TelecomC - a specialized platform for developing high availability call switching applications. • The TelecomC package comprised a custom C compiler, a multi-tasking kernel (which you could liken to Dalvik or ART in Android today), and a host of libraries for interfacing to communications hardware.• TelecomC was unique in that software components built with the platform were "hot-swappable" and could be modified real-time without system downtime. • "Pardon, there will be no interruption!" was our mantra. I sold ZeroToSixty() to SuccessWare while a student at UNC-Charlotte and soon joined their bright young team of developers led by our charismatic president, Jeff Jochum. • Principal architect of ZeroToSixty()/MachSIx, a query optimization engine for Clipper database systems.• Recruited and co-developed ZeroToSixty() in C/C++ with fellow Charlotte students.• Blindingly fast, ZeroToSixty() could reduce database wait times from minutes to seconds. Whoosh! SuccessWare, an early 90's startup, produced performance-oriented database tool kits for the Clipper development community. ZeroToSixty() was a natural complement to their flagship SixDriver and was soon added to the SuccessWare lineup and relaunched as MachSIx.Technology: C/C++, Clipper, DOS/DOS32, Novell, Query Optimization
