Research focuses on best practices for public transportation agencies, accessibility for persons with disabilities to fixed-route transit, innovative practices in on-demand transportation, public transit and TNC partnerships, accessibility to fixed-route transit, innovative practices for coordination between public transit and transportation network companies, regulations and policy in emerging mobility, and analysis of transit agency operational and financial data.

Todd Hansen is an Assistant Research Scientist for the Transit Mobility Program at TTI with more than six years of transportation experience, including significant contributions to other TCRP projects. His work focuses on best practices for public transportation agencies, accessibility for persons with disabilities to fixed-route transit, innovative practices for coordination between public transit and transportation network companies, and analysis of transit agency operational and financial data.

Todd Hansen is an Associate Transportation Researcher for the Transit Mobility Program at TTI with more than five years of transportation experience, including significant contributions to other TCRP projects. His work focuses on best practices for public transportation agencies, accessibility for persons with disabilities to fixed-route transit, innovative practices for coordination between public transit and transportation network companies, and analysis of transit agency operational and financial data.Mr. Hansen has led work with Houston METRO’s paratransit division, METROLift, in researching topics of bus stop accessibility and feeder services for their Moving Forward initiative. He analyzed the potential ridership and cost impacts that increased accessibility around fixed-route stops could have for paratransit services. He created an index of bus stop accessibility improvement needs based on area trip populations to determine the most affected bus stops for persons with disabilities. Mr. Hansen led assistance in METROLift’s feeder service pilot program by research peer agency practices and projecting cost-benefits of scheduling feeder service trips to connect with existing fixed-route service. Mr. Hansen led the analysis of data from the feeder service pilot at its conclusion and has presented his research in both bus-stop accessibility and feeder service at poster sessions during the TRB Annual Meeting.Mr. Hansen conducts research involving public and private service providers about their operations and experience in transportation, and technical assistance for transit agencies through operational capacity reviews of service performance and benchmarking data against measures from peer agencies.
