Currently serving as Manager of the Systems and Analyst group in the Paychex PEO located in St. Petersburg, FL. with 14 Project and Systems Analysts reporting to me.Drawing upon my 15 years of software development/management experience, I am responsible for delivering improvements to existing internal PEO business unit processes, and devising new strategies to better serve our clients through technological advances and automation.

Served as a Development Manager on a large scale, technically complex, set of interconnected applications in the payroll industry. Day to day responsibilities included the management of, and technical input to, various concurrent projects. In addition to project work, I had HR responsibilities for 9 direct reports and I oversaw a number of contract developers. The applications are responsible for the database creation, control, and maintenance of over 5 million customer payroll records - Application availability and robustness is paramount for day to day operations. A tightly controlled production and testing environment is used to ensure that proposed code changes are “bulletproof” before being released the production.Another role that I currently play at Paychex is to assist in the Adoption of Agile/Scrum development within a large scale project that has traditionally used a Waterfall approach to software development. Utilizing past experiences and lessons learned, I leverage my knowledge to avoid many pitfalls, misnomers, and wrong turns associated with a major cultural change.

Served as HR Manager of, and technical contributor to, a software engineering team that created applications using Java, maximizing company's productivity and profitability through cutting-edge programs. As an early adopter of Agile methods, I gained 5 years of development and delivery experience using the Scrum process. I have been trained as a Scrummaster and have served that role on a variety of delivery teams. The software team as a whole is responsible for the UI's that serve as the tool to setup and maintain complex printing machines in the Print Shop industry. These UI’s communicate with the embedded C++ based machine module code via a series of RPC interface layers. Much of the development was been done via a test first approach using Java (JDK 6), Swing, and the JUnit test framework.Managerial responsibilities included: • Human resource manager for a team of Software Engineers (Includes performance appraisals, career guidance, etc.) • Involved in the selection and hiring processes of new college recruits, as well as interns, for the larger SW team. • Removing impediments to the team’s success (Barrier Busting) • Determine and set forth process improvements • Improve the business - Find more opportunities for our group. • Find the correct balance between traditional management roles and the roles on an Agile development team.Technical responsibilities for delivery were: • The design, creation, and maintenance of custom UI's on a point and click interface using Java Swing. • The design, creation, and modification of interfaces to the embedded controls team on our products using Java Swing. • Serve as the Usability/Operability leader for our team. • Serve as Scrummaster on a variety of scrums with varying deliverables per major S/W release.
