Lead Mountmaker & Project Manager
• Exhibit Production & Specialized Fabrication* Design and build brass and steel mounts to display three-dimensional artifacts; measure artifacts, create shop drawings, fabricate, fit, faux paint, and perform final installation of mount and artifact.* Perform metal fabrication, including silver solder, brazing, and metal inert gas (MIG) welding; operate milling machine, lathe, drill press, and bench grinder.* Rig, move, and install large, heavy artifacts using forklift and gantry.* Fabricate forms for uniforms and costumes using appropriate archival materials.*Create custom, individualized acrylic book cradles for documents and manuscripts based on conservator’s specifications for displaying the artifact.* Design and construct pedestals for artifact display, including finish carpentry, staining and painting.* Perform collection relocation utilizing a variety of packing and crating techniques; safely and efficiently load artifacts for short and long distance transport; utilize inventory control systems to accurately track artifacts.* Construct full panel crates, slat crates, and wooden pallets for relocation and storage of large, heavy artifacts.* Utilize knowledge of anchoring systems to hang paintings safely and securely from a variety of surfaces.* Perform conservation matting and framing for works on paper, photographs, and paintings.• Project Management* Coordinate with museum registrars, curators, conservators, designers, architects and preparators to successfully install and uninstall exhibitions and single artifacts. * Write proposals and estimates utilizing artifact lists and architectural designs; conduct information meetings with client to establish production and installation schedule; maintain communication with client from initial consultation to final installation.* Manage and oversee staffing and budget; track labor and materials costs; purchase materials and tools; assign staff to tasks and projects and adjust workload as needed.
