The Iowa Small Business Development Center at Western Iowa Tech Community College is located in Room B113 in the college’s Sioux City campus. The center is one of 16 regional business assistance centers statewide and serves small business needs in Cherokee, Crawford, Ida, Monona, Plymouth and Woodbury counties. Along with free one-on-one business counseling, the center offers other practical business services, including market research services and a variety of business education classes.

•Lead production, training, safety, quality, delivery, and cost of all Earth Mover products on the 3rd shift. This includes the implementation of all lean tools and strategies through proper training and organization of the employees. Also, included are the training and instruction of the team in all aspects of their jobs, Corporate and OSHA required training specifically all Corporate policies on diversity, safety, and lean principles•Creating a plan and proving it out to save the company several hundred thousand in lost production time through shift overlap. •Training 20+ employees to learn multiple skills on the shop floor enabling them to go to any department at any time. This was from each only knowing one area to the average being 3 different areas. •Implementing lean principles into an area that had previously had very little lean experience at all. •Reducing change over times in a specific cell 50% using lean principles. •Instilling in the team a sense of urgency and pride in the quality of their work, helping to achieve a major reduction in defective parts per million. •Going 3 months without an OSHA recordable incident. •Working with the other team leads to reduce lead time, proving that product can go from raw to finished wheels in 4 days. •Working to help reduce inventory by over $500,000

This includes the implementation of all lean tools and strategies through proper training and organization of the employees. Also, included are the training and instruction of the team in all aspects of their jobs, Corporate and OSHA required training specifically all Corporate policies on diversity, safety, and lean principles. Major accomplishments were: •Reducing past due units from 2000 to 0. •Reducing lead time from 8 week to 3 weeks. •Improving on time delivery from 75% to 99%. •Implementing lean and operating with 20% fewer people and still improving performance. •Reducing Defective parts per million from 5000 to under 500 DPPM. •Massively reducing WIP inventory through lean principles.

Company Executive Officer 1995-1996 •Provided leadership and supported the Company Commander with the training, logistics, health and welfare for a 120 soldier infantry company with attachment. This included being the company equal opportunity officer, being familiar with Army and Government regulations pertaining to EEO and harassment. Duties included instructing yearly classes on EEO and all other unit related activities.
