Responsible for the oversight and direction of the company's legal affairs with the provision of key strategic legal and business advice in all significant areas of the company's operations. Managed the legal department for both of Nexen's production blocks in Yemen. Provided legal advice and strategic business advice to senior and executive management on all aspects of company business including drilling, production, operations, construction, crude oil marketing, terminal operations, human resources and security. Negotiated and finalized tie-in agreements and regularly met with various Ministries and government operating committees on contractual and legal matters concerning the company’s business in Yemen. Mentored and trained national staff within the legal department. Provided legal advice on labour disputes and developed strategies for the company on various PSA handover and transition concerns. Managed the project team tasked with undertaking the assignment and novation of over 300 third party contracts to the new national operator.Provided input and advice on facilities usage contracts, joint venture agreements, lifting agreements and production sharing agreements. Participated in the transition and handover of the Masila production block to a newly formed national operator at the expiry of the Masila block PSA.

Oil Sands Practice Group. Primarily negotiated, drafted and provided advice on high value EPC, construction and procurement contracts at Nexen's Long Lake SAGD oil sands project.

Oil Sands Practice Group. Primarily negotiated, drafted and provided advice on high value EPC, construction and procurement contracts with Petro-Canada's MacKay River (SAGD) and Fort Hills (open pit mining) projects. Represented the company as lead counsel on numerous contracts valued between US $100MM and US $500MM. Developed and provided strategic training sessions for the company's supply chain management teams. Assisted in the company's contract template redrafting project. Learned to provide efficient, hands-on legal and strategic advice and specialized in negotiating complex commercial and legal terms arrangements in a collaborative and timely manner.

Four years litigation experience, two years with McCarthy Tetrault in Calgary and two years with a leading Calgary boutique law firm with significant exposure at both firms to oil and gas, commercial and construction litigation. Developed a comprehensive understanding of principles relevant to the mitigation of litigation and arbitration related risks in commercial projects.
