I remade CAD and managed all new GD&T drawings for entire system of 26 parts. Created fundamental design analyses and documents, then identified and fixed major design flaws in preload mechanism and bearings. Increased compressor life by 5x.• Designed two generations of stratospheric free space optical communications (FSOC). Successfully designed, built, tested and flew first generation in one year. Prototype BOM cost lower than commercial systems, maintained link at greater than 100 Km, microradian stability over more than 100 °C, and still functioned after 1 m drop test, dusty ground testing and parachute recovery.• Invented moldable, compact, precision, passively aligned, miniature projection lens assembly. Created GD&T technique and invented metrology stitching technique for freeform optics.

Created thermo-optical FEA to prove system’s nanometer scale accuracy.• Created several new DMI design features for enhanced performance and lower cost, and associated production tooling. Key features were adopted by customer’s designs.• Developed in-house wavefront measuring apparatus using MATLAB. We used the results to discover a fundamental relationship of DMI errors as a function of optical errors and created enhancements to two cardinal optics.
