Space Based Laser Comms

• Advanced vehicle systems engineering: Created the preliminary fleet revenue model that showed the viable and non-viable payload architectures, created vehicle sizing model in Matlab, created modified development plan to decrease time and costs of development, led new low cost development effort, advised team members on technical technique and priorities, created vehicle drag analytical model and document used universally within the company, redesigned several subsystems to work with vehicle prototypes.• Charged with eliminating technical debt of compressor and leading the team to production. I remade CAD and managed all new GD&T drawings for entire system of 26 parts. Created fundamental design analyses and documents, then identified and fixed major design flaws in preload mechanism and bearings. Increased compressor life by 5x.• Designed two generations of stratospheric free space optical communications (FSOC). Successfully designed, built, tested and flew first generation in one year. Prototype BOM cost lower than commercial systems, maintained link at greater than 100 Km, microradian stability over more than 100 °C, and still functioned after 1 m drop test, dusty ground testing and parachute recovery.• Invented moldable, compact, precision, passively aligned, miniature projection lens assembly. Created GD&T technique and invented metrology stitching technique for freeform optics.

• Invented, verified and implemented adhesiveless and passively aligned large precision objective that proved to be cost competitive with conventional design solutions.• Created GD&T technique for directly defining specifications. Created MATLAB script that calculated lens locations of various parts from CMM data. My improved lens position metrology led to an order of magnitude reduction in errors and fabrication process improvements.• Salvaged critical pre-objective optical module from severe design trouble. Simplified and optimized the design, while getting the module back in line with the overall project build.

• Invented and designed technology that provides the lowest cost and highest output for solar distributed energy utilizing a simple thermodynamic subsystem.• Established core partnerships with research team at the University of Oregon and fabricators.• Researched market, identified customer profile, and filed several grant proposals.

• Invented and designed the Dual Edge Snowboard, a revolutionary type of outdoor sports equipment that is low production cost, easily assembled, durable, low maintenance, low weight and high strength.• Developed and tested several R&D and production prototypes.• Protected IP through U.S. and international filings.• Established and tested supply chain, including several foreign manufacturers.• Researched market, identified customer profile, and created financials as part of our award-winning 90-page business plan.• Established brand identity and website deucesnowboards.com. • Invented digital cinema monolithic optics architecture. Defined, formed and led the IP Landscaping effort. Created networked design parameter analysis format, and ANSYS FEA model that correlated glass material, light flux and size to Contrast Ratio, and validated model using journal papers.• Developed innovative fiber fed, low cyclic error, displacement measuring interferometer (DMI). Invented four new tooling-processes for this product, which broadened the capabilities of our division. Created and established program control activities and tools. Created thermo-optical FEA to prove system’s nanometer scale accuracy.• Created several new DMI design features for enhanced performance and lower cost, and associated production tooling. Key features were adopted by customer’s designs.• Developed in-house wavefront measuring apparatus using MATLAB. We used the results to discover a fundamental relationship of DMI errors as a function of optical errors and created enhancements to two cardinal optics.
