Principal EngineerThe Pawl Group Aug 2018 - PresentAs a Principal Engineer, I utilize my food processing experience as a consultant to assist our client partners achieve their goals. This may begin early in the capital project lifecycle with Front End Engineering Design for capital planning purposes. I am often brought in to supplement the client partners existing resources to perform as a project manager (managing the project execution from kick-off to commissioning). I have been requested to analyze/design/engineer unique solutions to specific problems. I have developed specific skill sets associated with sustainability and energy efficiency. If the client partner has specific sustainability objectives, I have the whole plant process knowledge to understand the utility demands and formulate solutions to achieve these objectives. The same manufacturing and food safety/biosecurity knowledge is also be applied to Controlled Environment Agriculture projects. This may involve hydroponics/aeroponics/hybrid/aquaponics type plant growing technologies.

Engineering Project ManagerGrande Cheese Company 2015 - 2018Fond Du Lac, Wi, UsAs the Engineering Project Manager, I directed project teams, consultants and contractors in the execution of capital projects ranging in size from $10MM to $80MM. My responsibilities included scope development, cost estimating, capital allocation, project schedule, resource forecasts, contract and contractor management, and budget accountability. Engineering supported the technical and project needs at nine Wisconsin production facilities. The span of operations at these facilities include; cheese and whey manufacturing, dice/shred, aging, packaging, warehousing/distribution, pilot plant operations and wastewater treatment. In addition to project work;• partnered with senior leadership on the annual development and issuance of the Strategic Long-Range (4-year) Plan. Capital was forecasted for new product development, capacity increases, line extensions, major repairs, cost reduction, and quality improvement projects.• mentored and coached new engineers and managers on energy, Project Management Office, documentation requirements, financial reporting, and engineering standards.• served on a leadership team focused on 20-year master planning for the entire organization. As a technical resource, I provided facility capacity models, conceptual expansion plans and capital requirements to support sales projections for current and future products.• As the Subject Matter Expert for energy and wastewater, I directed the energy efficiency effort of the corporate sustainability initiative (energy, water, air, solid/liquid waste reduction). This included collaboration with state and utility partners to identify, install, and secure incentives for energy reduction projects. Some noteworthy projects during this time were;• Cheese Plant Expansion/Anaerobic Digester with Green Energy - Juda, WI• Whey Plant Expansion/Wastewater Expansion - Juda, WI• Whey Plant Purchase - Juda, WI -
Senior Project EngineerGrande Cheese Company 2002 - 2015Fond Du Lac, Wi, UsAs the Senior Project Engineer, I directed project consultants and contractors in the execution of capital projects ranging in size from $0.5MM to $10MM. In addition to project work • authored and presented a business proposition to produce fuel ethanol from cheese whey permeate (lactose). Directed pilot plant experiments to validate fermentation technology yields.• took the initiative to become a Certified Energy Manager. I then led the engineering effort for the company Energy Conservation Initiative. I identified and executed many energy-saving projects. Thenfacilitating energy efficiency incentives for these projects through the Wisconsin Focus on Energy program and the US Department of Energy. I sparked enough energy interest that four other engineers took the training and became Certified Energy Managers. I analyzed and presented a project for a decentralize electricity generation project at the Brownsville facility with the Midwest Combined Heat and Power Assessment Center. Some noteworthy projects during this time were;• Anaerobic Digester with Green Energy - Brownsville, WI• Whey Protein Isolate Project - Friendship, WI• Wastewater Treatment Plant - Juda, WI -
