·Managed News Department production and technology for daily 74,000-circulation four-edition newspaper. ·Directly supervised Photo Assignment editor, News Editor, Copy Desk Chief, Electronic Imaging manager, Graphics editor, Design editor, and Systems editor. Supervision extended to 36 staffers: photographers, copy editors, imaging technicians, graphic artists, layout editors, page designers and pagination technicians.Instituted Computer-Assisted Reporting program, using spreadsheet and database managers, internet and other resources; ·Established email- and World Wide Web-based retrieval and exchange systems for materials (photos and text) contributed for publication. This included creating and administering FTP server with passwords and protocols between the newspaper and its wire services, suppliers and correspondents and setting up agreements and contracts for external use of house-generated materials by other outlets. It also included setting of standards regarding size and quality of contributed materials;·Conceived and executed two Total Market Coverage products (Valley Life and Office Park News). Responsibilities included: Supervising and assigning stories to network of full-time staff writers and part-time correspondents; copy editing and rewriting articles; assigning photographers and graphic artists; designing and laying out tabloid products; creating and policing story, layout and production deadlines;·Brought entire 100+ newsroom on-line with new PC-based front-end and pagination system within six-month target in 1995; established pagination technician/trainee program; coordinated inter-departmental activities to assure standards of quality, accountability and production; set up and administered initial staff email accounts;·Integrated Macintosh-based graphics and advertising departments with PC-based editorial production departments;HONORS: Thomson Corp. Supervised of 12 copy editors, three make-up editors, and suburban editors.·Directed merger of 20,000-circulation morning newspaper and 59,000- circulation evening paper; reorganized staffing schedules; established universal copy desk and make- up and graphics desk; reorganized page flow and deadline process; revamped package of "new" morning newspaper, including redesign of Page One; created News Digest wire news page and standardized guidelines for same. HONORS: Regional and national Associated Press awards for directing breaking news coverage of fatal jet crash and Unabomber letter-bombing of Yale University professor.

Thompson Newspapers Editorial Training Center, University of Wisconsin/Oshkosh·Served as one of seven semi-permanent instructors in Newsroom Trainee program established by Thompson Newspapers Inc. to provide breeding ground for Community Journalists by encouraging “second-career” opportunities. ·Acted as both instructor and mentor to five student journalists and as editor for class “newspaper.”
