For my first six months at Airbnb, I led the teams that underpin Airbnb's core components (users, listings, reservations, pricing, availability, reviews) and provide platform-level offerings for all types of properties and their hosts.For the next 18 months I led the Regulatory Platform engineering organization, building the software products that enable Airbnb, at scale, to partner with jurisdictions around the world in developing and enforcing home sharing regulations in their communities, and supporting hosts in complying with those regulations. Significant accomplishments included steering, stabilizing, and supporting the team through the challenges of working through layoffs and the pandemic, rebuilding the team to be even stronger and larger than before, developing and executing an automation strategy that will bring step-change engineering efficiency, recruiting, hiring, and training a brand new team of contractors to handle standard regulatory launches and foundational engineering tasks, and laying much of the groundwork to form a new engineering team in Bangalore.

Significant contributions in my first four years at Amazon.com include:CRM Applications: Internationalized, enhanced, and maintained the front- and back-ends of key automated e-mail marketing programs. Developed ETL scripts for the CRM data mart using Perl, ksh, SQL, and Ab Initio. Amazon Buyer Information System (ABIS): Migrated this essential research, forecasting, and purchasing tool used by Amazon's buyers from a Java Swing application to a WLE server-based Java application with an HTML front-end. Implemented several back-end modules to provide complete catalog integration as well as many GUI components.Contribution Margin (CM): As the sole software engineer on this cross-functional "task force" project to calculate the profitability of every item that Amazon sells, I designed and built the CM database, computation model, data access tools, and reports that became widely used throughout the company. Recognized with a corporate "Just Do It" award for rapidly implementing tools to provide access to critical data instead of waiting several months for a fancier interface to be developed.Product Spider (three patents issued): I was one of three software engineers who designed and built a system for identifying and categorizing products for sale across a complete snapshot of the Web and including them in relevant "All Product Search" results on Amazon.com.WebHire Transition: Responsible for the technical transition of Junglee's employment listing business to WebHire after Junglee's acquisition by Amazon. Trained the engineering team at WebHire and worked closely with their business team and Junglee's customers to ensure a seamless transition of technical processes and customer support.

Designed, implemented, and deployed customized "Job Canopy" websites featuring searchable employment listings extracted directly from individual employer websites by automated software agents. Entrusted with the policy and execution of Junglee's customer service, liaising as necessary between customers and internal business development and engineering teams. Elevated engineering best practices by formulating and socializing style and efficiency guidelines for coding software agents in Junglee's proprietary language. (Junglee was acquired by Amazon.com in August, 1998.)
