I am an industrial designer and senior member of the US engineering group at Benchmark Electronics. I am also an experienced graphic designer with a strong background in marketing, and lead the marketing efforts of the company for corporate. I help design electronics-driven products for medical, industrial, aerospace, defense, and related markets. My tools are pencil and paper, CAD, photography, video, and the written word. Software includes the Adobe design suite products, SolidWorks, Sketch-Up, and the Microsoft Office Suite.Some product examples: • COMSEC telephone (used by several U.S. presidents)• Handheld medical device for finding veins (won a MDEA GOLD award for design excellence)When designing a product, I consider the needs of the end user of the product as well as the marketplace in which it will be competing. My job may include designing the display and control interfaces (Human Factors / Ergonomics). I play a role in materials selection, colors, textures, graphics, packaging, user manuals, marketing materials and sometimes even the product name and brand identity. I am often told that I get to have all the fun, and I tend to agree.I also develop the marketing approach and related materials for Benchmark corporate. This includes the company website, presentations, brochures, annual reports, data sheets, advertising, exhibits, and tradeshows. My human factors background includes over 10 years experience at RCA, GE and Lockheed Martin, designing advanced consoles and related equipment for the US military.
