Discovery and demonstration design were key, as my role was to understand what our clients needs with customer data (mostly offline) were. The sales engineering process typically involved receipt of sample data including anywhere from thousands to tens of millions of customer records. The customer records would be processed either in batch or by API, and then mined for useful intelligence that could be used to present relevant solutions and demonstrate ROI. An additional and exciting component of the role was working within the E1x solution on geographical/spatial use cases.

Brought US customers 1-100 on board with the team I started by designing, executing, and continually optimizing an on-boarding path for customers of a complex software platform. Directly managed dozens of customers through their first experiences with a customer data platform, then assisted with new first-party data projects and ongoing optimization. Assisted in design and pilot deployments of new CDP features including ML-based content & product recommendations, content metering, and visit abandonment. Responsible for implementing or assisting with implementations of business-changing use cases for customer data platforms and first-party data, such as MAB content optimizations, web-to-email programs, etc.

Worked with an incredible B2B marketing and analytics team managing digital analytics, integrating and aggregating MDB/CDW data for automated reporting. Dashboards were designed to be action-oriented, and here I also designed designed and developed a solution to tie social media activities to leads. Another aspect of this role was to evaluate operational software and marketing technology to extend and improve processes.

Unica was a leader in Enterprise Marketing Management software. Technical Account Management was a hybrid account management and technical/data consulting services team created in support of a new hosted offering, NetInsight On Demand. We worked with data and marketing leaders to solve digital measurement challenges that would unlock opportunities for their brands. My team was responsible for bringing these customers on board, and working with them throughout the lifetime of their NetInsight On Demand service. We would run end-to-end web and app analytics implementations, including consulting on business requirements, developing technical specifications, and implementing JavaScript tags to collect data. Another key aspect of every software role is bringing customer requirements to product management / development, and liasing for these conversations as the product is being developed.

Sane Solutions required a broad skillset and high aptitude for learning new technologies in order to support its clients and software (NetTracker). This is when I first started writing pages of SQL and pages of explanatory technical documentation for technical and non-technical readers. Day-to-day life was heavy in SQL, database adminstration (e.g. performance, integration), server administration (e.g. shell scripting, performance), and web technologies (HTML, PHP, JavaScript, Perl and Flash at the time). Loads of CLI, text mining/manipulation, and regex. All of that was the technical side, but then there was the business side of things -- actual web analytics data capture and reporting capabilities. Burgeoning analytics teams needed to be supported. Working with customers on data collection and dashboard/reporting configuration and analysis based on their business requirements was the other half.

After years of freelancing in web services as UraniumWeb, UraniumGamers started up and I was hosting game servers. This was the first time I brought 100 customers on board, this time to my own administration platform designed for webmin on CentOS. It did the job :) UraniumGamers grew to the point where I provided top notch game servers to individuals and teams internationally. This period of entrepreneurship involved operating in a 24/7 support environment delivering cross-platform technical support, server administration, hardware resource planning, technical operations, database management (MySQL), product management and selection, market analysis, and of course, managing all aspects of content generation, marketing and communications (web, SEO, SEM, email, display advertising, PR, social media, etc.)
