Passionate about media, communications, design, and the environment. Since 2020, I've led marketing and communications at Project Drawdown — the world's leading resource for climate solutions. Through our work we're sharing climate solutions with a global audience in the tens of millions each year. Previous to Project Drawdown, I held two roles: publisher of Ensia and associate director for the University of Minnesota's Institute on the Environment. As publisher of Ensia — a solutions-focused nonprofit media outlet reporting on our rapidly changing planet — I was responsible for overall strategic and editorial direction, media partnerships, fundraising, staff oversight, marketing and public relations. Through Ensia we highlighted critical environmental issues and reached a global audience in the millions. At the Institute on the Environment (IonE), I led the EM-Lab (Environmental Media Lab) — a division within IonE focused sharing sustainability stories and solutions with decision makers and thought leaders worldwide. Prior to these roles, I was communications director for IonE where I led the team that built the overall communications strategy from the ground up and helped elevate IonE to the top tier of environmental research institutes in the U.S.Broadly speaking, my areas of expertise include journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, media relations, fundraising, writing, design, event management and presentation coaching.I also lead communications workshops and have developed an informative and slightly irreverent talk — "Fight the Power(point)!" — for scientists and others wishing to become better presenters. I've delivered this presentation to academic, corporate, NGO and government audiences around the world and the training has been viewed over half a million times online and counting. On a personal note, I'm truly passionate about the environment, wildlife and animal welfare. I also enjoy traveling with with my family, hiking with our dog and getting outdoors!I'm available to consult on communications or discuss my presentations workshop.
