I focus on the big picture so I can find a clear and elegant approach that sings for everyone.One thing I love most about Volleyball is the unspoken coordination that moves everyone to the right place on the court. A lot of coaching and work happens to reach this point. It's not just in each person knowing what spot to go to, but in their understanding why that spot matters. What's more, as the situation on the court changes, each player adjusts their position to help their team. This is a great metaphor for how I operate. I am at my best when I understand the wider situation and external factors as well as everyone’s point of view. From this understanding, I develop an operational approach that helps each player see how they fit into the bigger picture, aligning their perspectives with the overall strategy. When changes or issues arise, the team knows how to adapt to succeed. When the approach resonates with everyone, it is both rewarding, repeatable and successful. Great customer experience (CX) isn't just about Customer Service. Product, Marketing, Technology, HR, Legal and other departments all need to move to their spots on the court to make it happen. I work to understand the customer, business priorities, local points of view and shape the target CX and the agenda of efforts to get there. Then, I help each group see how they fit and what CX needs from them (and what CX can do for them!)As Chief of Staff, I bring that same approach to connect the efforts of the different, sometimes siloed, teams into an overall strategy (and the connect the overall strategy to their efforts!). I find opportunities for teams to shift their focus to help other teams as the situation shifts.
