I have over thirty years of experience dealing with intellectual property issues. I have spent most of my career focused on inter partes matters before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and in federal courts. I have represented clients in well over one hundred inter partes proceedings including IPRs, PGRs, patent interferences, district court litigation, ITC litigation, and Federal Circuit appeals. I have had the fortune to work on all types of technologies—biotechnology, chemical, electrical, mechanical—including two Nobel prize winning technologies. I aid client in successfully asserting their intellectual property rights, avoiding large damage awards by invalidating patents, and settlement of complex proceedings. As leader of the practice group, Buchanan’s PTAB practice has achieved rankings by Patexia as high as second in the nation for representing patent owners and as high as fourth in the nation overall. While much of my practice focused on inter partes matters, I am experienced in counseling clients in most other aspects of intellectual property, including patent procurement, and infringement and validity analysis.
