For the last 19 years, I have worked at building a reputation as a teacher in low income districts. I recognize the importance of a positive image and have represented myself, my students, parents, colleagues, school and district with professionalism and respect. Much of that time was spent running a philanthropic, student-run greenhouse that grew and harvested hundreds of pounds of produce. My current goal is to create a PK - 2, Dual Language, multicultural library for my bilingual students.From teaching, I have experience managing and leading others, great organizational and time-management skills, and exceptional presentation and public speaking skills. I created Project Greenhouse, while teaching, for which I wrote and received $90,000+ worth of grants and gifts to sustain this philanthropic greenhouse that donated hundreds of pounds of organic, student grown produce to a local food pantry. Additionally, I designed a website and wrote publications promoting the program, even presenting on the topic in St. Louis and Wisconsin.These experiences have allowed me to communicate with people from all work persuasions, having collaborated with students, colleagues, parents, administrators, City Hall members and community leaders. At Zion ESD6, a vibrant community full of wonderful people, culture, love, and support, my goal is continuing to create a growing, bilingual library, for the students and teachers I happily and willingly serve. This includes more than curating interesting, fun, and topical, Spanish/Dual-Language/English materials that are more than just suitable for our school family.It includes finding material that our youngest, oldest, beginning, emergent, and fluent readers, can enjoy, with high quality translations, curricular items that support and supplement their in-classroom learning, and locating titles and materials that match their interests and creating a space to house them - a library - that provides excitement and wonder from merely walking into it.Like all quality things, it will be done “one page at a time.”
