So I did!I've had the advantage of conducting large-scale, complex fraud investigations around the globe. They have afforded me many unique experiences following the money trail or interrogating financial criminals with the hope of obtaining the confession and solving the case. Now, as a novelist, I fictionalize these investigations for confidentiality reasons and to add the dramatic element intended to thrill my readers to keep then turning the pages. An added bonus is that if you are in the business of financial crime investigations you might pick up a few tips because my plotlines are taken from my real-life investigations... not someone else's. In 2018, I published my first novel in the Sam Halloran series SUNDAY NIGHT FEARS, inspired by my first fraud discovery on my first public company audit. Yes... I started out as an auditor. My discovery led to an SEC Enforcement/FBI investigation that destroyed the company—and I had found a new career. Soon after that experience, I started the Forensics practice in Indianapolis, then moving to Chicago as a new partner in 1996 to lead that Forensics practice. My second novel in the series, ONE HONEST SOUL, published in 2021, finds Sam on an investigation south of the border and facing off with a homicidal tyrant that knows no bounds. This was one of my most dangerous jobs investigating a ruthless divisional general manager of a US public company. Not only was he stealing millions but also engaged in various other criminal activities. My third novel (expected to publish in Fall 2022) has Sam investigating fraud in the Chicago Public Schools where he follows tentacles into the corrupt politics of Chicago and the State of Illinois—a target rich environment indeed. The Chicago Forensic Accounting Investigation practice numbered four partners and 39 staff conducting forensic accounting investigations on a global basis primarily for US-based corporations. In 2006 Wiley published A GUIDE TO FORENSIC ACCOUNTING INVESTIGATION for which I was the lead author.

As a part-owner in this small wholesale distribution company I managed a six member sales force. The company sold candy and tobacco products to small retailers. In 1980, I sold my interest in the company to pursue my MBA at Indiana University graduating in 1982.
