Coordinator of Secondary Mathematics and Academic Pathways in the Toronto District School Board. Formerly a secondary mathematics and science teacher at Westview Centennial Secondary School. Also previously the Coordinator of Mathematics and Numeracy, Math Coach and K-12 Learning Coach in Learning Centre 4 in the TDSB.Equity, anti-racism and anti-oppression in education, particularly in the area of mathematics, has driven all aspects of my educational career. As a graduate of the Inner-City Education cohort at OISE's B.Ed. program, I developed a desire for improving mathematics education for students in inner-city secondary schools. The focus throughout my career has been in northwest Toronto, having also taught at Downsview Secondary School and C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute. By employing constructivist learning, differentiated instruction, culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy, the purposeful use of technology and inclusive practices, my goal is to ensure all students are held to the highest expectations and achieve at the highest levels.Since 2015, I have advocated and acted at the system level to challenge exclusionary structures and practices, particularly with respect to streaming students into non-Academic pathways (i.e. Applied, Essentials) and special education programming. I have led professional learning at local, system and provincial levels to share the evidence for eliminating academic streaming and promoting inclusive pedagogy. My work extends to the community as a member of the steering committee for the Coalition to Alternatives to Streaming in Education (CASE), a grassroots movement organized through the Ryerson Leadership Lab.
