Course: Teaching Multimedia / This web-based, graduate-level course for high school teachers in the Journalism Education Master's program is intended as an online introduction to recognizing and producing some of the basic, linear elements of non-linear, journalistic multimedia storytelling for the Web, including audio, video, and photo slideshows. Adviser, Owens Outlook Student Newspaper

Toledo, Ohio Area

Adviser to the Owens CC student online newspaper. We are currently in the process of bringing the hard copy print back, which is a reverse in the industry trend of colleges and high school's losing their print editions. This is a major challenge, considering there is no journalism curriculum at Owens. However, the intent is to teach students to think and act on the civil responsibility of the journalism field. We strive to inform and entertain the Owens community through critical thinking, trial and error, and good old fashion learning by training and experience. Beginning Jan. 24, 2014, the student media staff will be going through the News Academy, a weekly training session I am implementing for all current and incoming student media staff. This new training regime will focus on writing, photography, layout and design, law and ethics, copy editing, and ad sales. Local professional media will help with the training.
