The Gaffer Tapes:I built The Gaffer Tapes from a pastime recorded on an iPhone in a friend's front-room, into an award-winning brand and the UK’s biggest Fantasy Football Show with 30,000 listeners a week from 51 countries. This was almost entirely down to relentless self-promotion and a tenacious passion to improve, evolve and stay one-step ahead of the ever-growing competition. I knew we had something good; a niche, a subject that was only going to get bigger, and The Gaffer Tapes evolved with the growing popularity of Fantasy Football in the UK, becoming the media's go-to for written content or voices on the radio. We wrote for SPORTbible, The Telegraph, The Daily Mirror, What Culture and Fashion Beans Magazine and appeared on BBC Radio 5 Live and talkSPORT. We had professional representation between 2017 and 2020, filmed a TV pilot and – the proudest moment for me, personally – had a book released by Pitch Publishing in July 2019. ‘The A-Z of Fantasy Football’ is still available in all good book shops.I managed all social media for The Gaffer Tapes, which boasted over 20,000 followers at its peak and a verified Twitter account, creating content that regularly outperformed our social reach, including several viral videos (one of which reached 5 million hits in a week). As a result of The Gaffer Tapes' online success, I was asked to create content for big social media accounts to help build up their reach. I have worked alongside brands such as Paddy Power, The LADbible group, Slash Football, NBC Sport and Stuff Magazine. The Gaffer Tapes now have two online merchandise stores – one Europe based, one US – and our website was one of the Top 30 Fantasy sports sites in the World. I forged a relationship and lucrative sponsorship deal with Draft Kings, a multi-million-dollar American sports company in 2018. We also won a national award in 2016, of which the nomination process was solely down to public votes, something I worked relentlessly at, getting nominated alongside huge social media profiles like The Sun, talkSPORT and Bob Mortimer, before eventually winning the judge's award.In December of 2018 we recorded our last podcast, but continue to produce fantasy football content for various publications and through our social channels.We have been in contact with various online publishers and brands over the last couple of years about bringing The Gaffer Tapes back, so watch this space...For more information on The Gaffer Tapes, please send me an email... as you can tell, I LOVE talking about it.tommyholmes@hotmail.co.uk
