Product Development1) Was responsible for branded and co-manufactured treats. Experience with extruded, molded and baked products. Developed formulas, launched products, supported Operations and validated ingredients. Closely worked with Sales to a) develop prototypes for presentations and 2) to tailor formula platforms for co-manufacturing. Closely worked with Marketing to develop the Nutrish ®line of treats. Currently new products with higher margins are about 55% of the treat business. 2) Led development of Gnawin’ Forever ® which is a combination of toy with a long lasting chew. The team designed the toy, compositions of toy components, shape of the chew, chew composition as well as the production tools. Three patent applications were filed. Product launched into Wal-Mart in Q2 of 2013.3) Developed and launched two full feeding diets, Nutrish just 6® Lamb Meal & Rice as well as Nutrish ® Healthy Weight. Also developed upgrades to current dry/soft moist full feeding diets.Technology Development1) Soft Moist Technology: expertise in pliable textures from production through shelf life. Used ingredients and processing to control texture, appearance, moisture and water activity. Applied to both extruded and molded products. Developed multiple proprietary formulas. Led effort to file patent applications for three formulas. All formulas were subsequently commercialized.2) Microbial Control: experience minimizing contamination from Salmonella and from mold. Used food ingredients to minimize Salmonella. Extensive experience controlling mold growth in semi-moist products.3) Extensive experience designing long lasting dog chews.
