In my role I am teaching IEP students across English and Math lessons from Year 4 to Year 10. It involves both teaching small groups and individuals. The role is within a setting that has native Emirati Learners as its main cohort, therefore, teaching is heavy of EAL. As part of my role it has involved been the class teacher for Year 4, 5 & 6 for short periods of time giving experience of the Primary Curriculum.

In my role I lead the teaching across a range of programmes including; Functional Skills (English and Maths), Employability and Personal & Social Development from Entry 1 to Level 2. I also supported learners through a workplace internship both on, and off, the job. A particular achievement in my role was working to gaining centre approval towards a new examining body (NCFE) and maintaining the associated Quality Assurance for NCFE and ASDAN, implementing a tracking system for Learners progress. I was also responsible for implementing a Marking & Feedback procedure, learner tracking and exams procedures, work/book scrutiny and overseeing the timetable development for Learners and Staff. It involved continual multi-agency meetings to keep Learner Action Plans and EHC Plans up to date as per CoP guidelines.

In my role I taught on the Functional Skills English programme delivering up to Level 2. This was challenging and unique environment delivering to Junior Soldiers on a sporadic teaching programme in order to fit around their Military training. I also supported some learners by working extra hours to assist in supporting the math department for supporting learners up to their Level 1 exam in Functional Skills.In addition to the above, I was an adviser to the SLT and the Military Board around SEN issues and coordinated cross college support for exam access arrangements and ensuring that the teaching was Dyslexia and Dyscalculia appropriate. As part of this, I lead a change and empowered Teaching Assistants to lead intervention sessions during the college day allowing the Junior Soldiers more free time in an evening to attend social and welfare events freeing up the the time for TAs to better support Teaching & Learning.

I worked within the Foundation Learning Department. It was a wide-reaching teaching role, working with – and supporting – learners from Entry 1 to Level 2 in English, math and Life Skills on Functional Skills programmes and a BTEC qualification. Learners within my setting presented with a range of conditions including Dyslexia, ASD, BSED and Downs Syndrome amongst a range of other conditions. Thus, I am well equipped to differentiate my work to suit the needs of my classes and learners in front of me. It involved liaising with parents and multi-agency working.
