Like MapReduce and Hadoop, the IPF enabled the development of highly scalable and parallel programs to be run across 100s to 1000s of nodes in compute cluster. IPF was designed and built on top of Windows Server, Microsoft SQL Server and the .NET Framework. The IPF middleware enabled developers to write highly scalable directed processing graphs over 1000s of Windows Server processing nodes. -

Worked closely with business operations team to contract with sources of high resolution imagery for the VE web app. Responsible for the discovery of and exclusive contract for oblique imagery, dubbed “Bird’s Eye”, used within Virtual Earth and used by Virtual Earth clients such as Zillow.Sky Server – May 2000 to November 2000Along with Dr. Jim Gray and Dr. Alex Szaley, built the Sky Server database and web application from the TerraServer source code. This became a popular academic research and collaboration site for astronomers from Johns Hopkins University, Cal Tech, and others around the country and globe.Microsoft TerraServer – August 1996 to September 2012Lead Investigator of the TerraServer joint research project to create a database and web application for the hosting of high resolution imagery. The project compiled 1m resolution USGS aerial imagery and declassified Russian satellite imagery into the first seamless presentation of imagery as a map in the internet. The project has been cited as the impetus for imagery as seen on Google Maps, Google Earth, Bing Maps, GlobeXplorer, etc.Bay Area Research Manager – May 1996 to December 2008Established and managed Dr. Jim Gray’s and Gordon Bell’s research lab in San Francisco. Ran the office, interviewed and hired researchers, and managed the relationship with other local offices and engineering centers. -
