Temporary Works Coordinator
Temporary Works Design Engineer
Throughout my time at IDH I have been involved in a wide variety of both standard and bespoke Temporary Works designs. I am also a fully qualified Temporary Works Coordinator and was the TWC on the Winfrith Decomissioning Project in the Nuclear Industry. My job role also includes liasing with clients, attending site visits to offer solutions to on site problems and to provide a conclusive, efficient and safe design to suit the clients requirements. Coordinating designs with the permanent works Structural Engineer, the groundworks team and on-site contractors is a common requirement within my job role. Producing construction methodologies and stages along with my designs are also a common requirement to ensure that the works are carried out exactly as intended.Quoting designs and tendering projects, both in Temporary Works and Permanent Works is also an ongoing requirement and skill that I have developed over time. Some of the areas of designs I have produced include:- Underpinning- Facade retention- Needling and propping- Hoardings & signboards- Piling mats & haul roads- Back-propping- Flying shores- Excavation designs; including timber shoring, sheet piles & permanent or sacrifical solutions- Timber heading design- Category 1, 2 & 3 design checksMany of my designs have incorporated common Temporary works apparatus and equipment such as Ischebeck Titan, RMD & Acrow Props to name a few.I have also been involved in various permanent works designs including:- Permanent steelwork design (beams, columns, connections)- Residential designs (elements including joists, rafters, ridge beams, lintels, padstones, foundations)I have experience teaching some of the principles of Temporary Works Engineering to fellow inexperienced colleagues within my department to ensure their understanding and knowledge of the engineering principles involved within the industry continues to grow.
Temporary Works Coordinator
I was the Temporary Works Coordinator for a large part of the duration of the Winfrith Decomissioning project whilst seconded from IDH. My job role involved producing all of the temporary works design briefs, maintaining the temporary works register, liasing with the site team for installation works, reviewing designs & was also an active member of the constructability processes for the project.Producing all permits to load, strike & recording any design changes that were needed while complying with the Temporary Works process was something I was consistently required to do to ensure that the workers and site was compliant for the duration of the time I was on the project. Instilling the process into the Scaffold team, General Ops team and sub contractors was also something which I actively carried out whilst on site to communicate the importance and relevance of the Temporary Works procedure within the construciton industry - both in a practial sense but predominantly from a Health & Safety and compliance stand-point.
