Levitz had been in bankruptcy on and off three different times, so it was an interesting challenge that probably makes a business school bankruptcy case study one day. Levitz had sales in excess of $500m in 2006. Significant overseas sourcing work to improve the cost structure of the business- spent considerable time in Southeast Asia and China. Rebuilt entire senior management team after bankruptcy.

The chain was over-leveraged after it had sold itself to private equity sponsors and stakeholders eventually sought bankruptcy protection (despite being solidly profitable) and sold the chain off in parts.

We bought a couple of companies out of bankruptcy, and looked at buying or merging with most of the footwear space. Managed business during and through the bankruptcy of our largest customer, Kmart. We turned $10k into a $20m company over the space of 5 years and had a hell of a lot of fun doing so. Business started in a dorm room while at Stanford. Originally started off selling boxer shorts with logos of college and pro sports teams and gradually became a provide of a full range of apparel products. Managed product development, purchasing and production and worked in Asia to establish apparel sourcing relationships.
