Working on-board a Royal Research Ship operating primarily in the Antarctic region but also in the Arctic Circle and the Atlantic Ocean. The ship is engaged in oceanographic research in both polar regions and the Atlantic ocean in between. Conducting surface, mid-water and sub-ocean floor sampling as well as sampling and monitoring the biological species of these areas. The ship has the dual role of running cargo and supplies to the British Antarctic Survey research stations in the Antarctic continent and islands.As Deck Engineer I am responsible for the maintenance, availability and operation of the ship's scientific equipment. Including ships fixed equipment and that supplied by third-party organisations.I carry out planned and unplanned maintenance on the ships: Cranes; Gantries; Hydraulic Traction winches and Hydraulic/Electric direct drive Winches; Cargo Tender; Scientific equipment and miscellaneous Deck machinery.I am tasked to ensure the efficient mobilisation, organisation and de-mobilisation of science cruises.As an officer on the ship I work with the Chief Officer/Principle Scientist as the responsible person on deck during scientific deployments/recoveries.I also hold a lead role in one of the ships emergency parties.I have experience in writing/updating Risk Assessments, Maintenance schedules and operational policies/procedures.I keep daily records of work and record all completed jobs on the ship's Planned Maintainance System. I ensure appropriate stock control and maintiain required stock levels considering our area of operations and budgets.

Working primarily on electrical systems onboard new build Offshore Patrol Vessels.Test, Commission and demonstrate all ships systems including alarm and monitoring systems, generators, power management systems, switchboards, pumps, fluid transfer systems, main engines and propulsion.Design and implement distributed alarm, monitoring and control systems to monitor and control all ship wide systems.Handle all warranty claims post vessel hand over. Including site visits for troubleshooting/repairs and management of subcontracted work by third party companies

Responsible for a group of up to 8 Clients participating in Adventureous Activities including but not limited to Rock Climbing, Kayaking, High Ropes, Abseiling, Rafting and Surfing.I was responsible for organising and running sessions that would stretch the participants out of their comfort zone and enjoy new experiences whilst ensuring they were always in a safe and controlled environment.
