55+ years of media, media research, and financial experience:• Founder and CEO of Birch Research Corp 1978-86 and CEO of Birch/Scarborough Research (BSRC) 1987-90. Birch/Scarborough challenged Arbitron in Radio audience measurement and was the largest national provider of newspaper audience research. At its peak, the company employed more than 1,200 persons nationwide and maintained sales offices in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Dallas and through its Canadian subsidiary Birch Radio/Canada, had offices in Toronto and Montreal. The company interviewed over 100,000 persons per month in 260 markets and its client base included major radio broadcast groups such as Clear Channel, CBS and Bonneville, leading national advertisers such as McDonalds, Anheuser-Busch and Delta Airlines, and major national advertising agencies such as BBDO, McCann-Erickson and Ogilvy & Mather.Birch Research was sold in 1987 to Dutch publishing conglomerate VNU, which acquired Nielsen in 1999. VNU combined Birch Research with VNU-owned Scarborough Research in 1987. • Partner and Chief Financial Officer, Simmons Market Research Bureau, 2001-2003. Significantly reduced operating expenses, increased operating profits and refinanced company debt which enabled the company to avoid bankruptcy and be positioned for acquisition in 2004 by Experian at a premium valuation• Entrepreneur and financial architect. Raised millions of dollars in venture and lender capital for a variety of businesses including personally owned and operated Opus Media Group and Lakes Media. Opus owned market-leading clusters in Jackson MS and Savannah GA and stations in Monroe LA and Fort Walton Beach FL. Lakes Media owns clusters in Danville VA and South Hill VA and stations in Oxford-Henderson NC and South Boston VA• Air talent, Program Director and Programming Consultant in the 1970s and 1980s. Program Director of WQAM/Miami, KOMA/Oklahoma City, Assistant Program Director WNOE/New Orleans, Music Director Y100/Miami-Fort Lauderdale, music research consultant to Y100/Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Q105/Tampa-St. Petersburg, WQBA-FM/Miami, WVOR/Rochester and KOMA/Oklahoma City.
