East Sussex

The school is a SEN school specialising in emotional and behavioural disorders, catering for 11-18 year olds. This position is a demanding and varied role working within the school and externally on off site visits. The role is a co lead role where duties from the department are split between two employees and we operate the daily operations of the Outdoor Learning department. This includes organising the daily activities with the students, which is arrived from writing the programme of study for the different year groups and the schemes of work to ensure the age appropriate learning for the students. The department also has a large amount of equipment which requires constant monitoring to ensure it is safe to use.Budgets, finances and expenditure are also monitored within the department including applying for any bursaries to enhance the facilities for the students.Risk management and health and legislation also fall under the remit of the department to ensure that we are adhering to the current legislation in the activities which are provided for the students. We operate a daily activity schedule where the students are taken off site to develop their personal, social and behaviour skills through working together on activities and sometimes with members of the public. the students also are able to achieve national governing body qualifications from such bodies as NICAS and British Canoeing. We also operate a series of enrichment days and camps so that the students are able to achieve in a completely different working environment.

Alongside providing the customer WOW, I worked closely with the Site Manager to ensure smooth daily operations were handled efficiently and effectively. Recruitment was managed prior to and during the season to cope with the varying demands of the year. This included an additional course being commissioned and doubled both capacity and staff numbers. Initial training of the staff and the ongoing development of all of their and our business needs was handled directly by the Deputy and Site Manager. Keeping all three activities up to date with H and S legislation and company wide standards; these included; Site and Course checks, Instructor brief assessments to ensure safe operations.We also ensured local marketing is maintained to achieve targets for customer numbers, which is monitored through events, partnerships and local relationships.

Tom was the responsible person for the overall managing of the UK's only dual Flowrider facility in the UK. An exciting brand in a developing sport and a unique and alternative experience for all. Responsibilities include:• General operations and maintenance of the centre including service management.• Optimising the operational teams for each department; Flowrider, reception, retail and bar & grill.• Health and Safety responsibilities include monitoring the water treatment safety, training and development of the staff, risk assessing, legislation control. • Creating and developing the continually changing staff programming for the four departments. • Developing and implementing new events and marketing strategies and events to maximise ride potential and increase retention. • Continual assessment of performance through targets and key performance indicators. • Role also includes offering instruction to customers as well as ensuring a quality customer experience throughout.

Egypt, Dahab

Delivered a high quality of instruction and customer service to the clients wishing to participate in various watersports, mainly windsurfing. Additional duties including maintenance of centre and equipment.

Grafham Water Centre, Cambridgeshire

Managing and liaising the relationship with the School Sport Partnerships and creating and delivering educational programmes of Outdoor Adventure Activities for the external partnership schools involved. Programmes developed for Years 3,4 and 7,8 and 11. Establishing and organising events, competitions and clubs. Additional duties included daily Duty Manager and running Team 15, a youth windsurf Olympic development programme and delivery of NGB courses.
