OVERVIEWThis role entailed providing support to solution participants at various stages of the solution development (design, implementation individual project). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Program design:• Attend program planning meetings with client representatives, solution architects and account management owners• Determine the best use of technology to deliver the project within SLA’s with the solutions architect• Work with internal teams to deploy the right toolset to support the client and internal requirements.• Carry out files and processes analysis on new lines of business for new or existing clients with the solution architect. I am responsible for the maintenance and further development of OCL’s homegrown Translation Management System. The system was developed several years ago but hadn’t been updated for some time. I have been bugfixing and implementing new features as a stopgap measure whilst qualifying external vendors and evaluating commercial packages. I provide technical support to a team of project managers and assist them in sourcing external engineering vendors when required. I provide troubleshooting advice and localization process development support to our internal teams and their clients. I also provide technical support (and occasional technical writing) to our marketing team.

I established a small team of 3 experienced programmers and 1 QA engineer locally in Bray. I also negotiated technical writing and additional QA/support personnel from the corporate HQ in the UK. The number of my direct reports would have varied between 5 and 9 people depending on our level of activity. My annual budget ranged from €250k to €380k. I reported to the CTO of the SDL group.In addition to managing the development of the product suite, I represented the group in negotiations with marketing (based in the UK and USA), supported sales staff, met with internal and external clients, and was responsible for the deployment and support of the products locally.All of our product development was based on an iterative lifecycle model with elements of XP/agile development incorporated. The primary focus of the team was on SDLinsight which grew from an initial codebase of 40,000 lines of code to 160,000 lines.- Maintained 3 products (HelpQA, HtmlQA and ToolProof – a combined total of 120,000 lines of code) personally- Converted a single-purpose internal utility to a general-purpose software localization tool (SDLinsight)- Technologies deployed included Visual C++, SQL Server, .NET, MFC, ATL, COM and DCOM- Made 2 significant releases of SDLinsight and 2 service pack releases. The first release slipped by a month due to changes in the release definition. All subsequent releases were on schedule. - Made 1 significant release of HelpQA and service pack releases for each of HtmlQA and ToolProof, all of which released on schedule.- 100% staff-retention rate during my tenure
