At Design 1st I am part of the product development team. I work directly with our clients to refine concepts and work towards a product that is suited for mass production. I frequently use in-house prototyping methods to complete a proof-of-concept model of design elements early on in the development. This helps to de-risk identified problems before the become costly discoveries on the production line.

At Ericsson I excelled in the role of lead mechanical designer on many projects. I was responsible for developing products used in radio base stations. I worked with a variety of manufacturing methods (plastic over-molding, bent sheet metal, deep drawing, and die casting) to produce cost effective designs which have reliable performance and quality. I engaged directly with overseas vendors to optimize the design of our products for manufacturability and low cost.I worked intimately with coworkers in a variety of different roles: electrical engineers, project managers, supply chain, production engineers, industrial designers, thermal experts, and quality engineers. Because of this, my skills in these areas also improved with an understanding of the details that are important to each role. My focus was also drawn to reducing design cycle times to pull in project schedules. I accomplished this by working with team members to streamline the design process as well as working with internal capabilities to build prototype parts for a quick proof of concept.

At SKF I was part of the application engineering team for my coop placement at the firm's Canadian headquarters. I was responsible for a wide range of tasks that helped to develop my engineering skills. Assisting customer with various technical questions allowed me to gain experience in a wide range of topics. I disassembled and analysed returned products for failure analysis and created reports to assist customers in discovering sources for improvement. I also completed calculations for application reviews including relubrication intervals, expected product life, and defect frequencies. I helped to increase productivity in my team by developing multiple software programs using VBA. I gained valuable experience by assisting in bearing installation on customer sites as well as creating and modifying assembly drawings.

At Water and Earth Supply I was a key-holder responsible for opening, closing, and maintaining product supply of the business from late spring to early fall. I assisted customers in selecting the appropriate product for their project and helped train new employees. I also operated and performed regular maintenance on a front-end loader.
