About Tom Cane
As Funds Editor, I am launching Mergermarket's coverage of private funds in North America. Mergermarket is trusted by industry professionals to provide the highest standard of information on M&A, private equity and equity capital markets. It allows them to harness our unique combination of intelligence, predictive analysis, generative AI and human insights to secure a competitive advantage. Our private funds coverage includes profiles of GPs and LPs, news and insights on funds, and data-driven analysis. Based in Chicago, I have over 15 years' experience in financial journalism, predominantly as an M&A and ECM specialist, as part of the former Acuris, and now ION Analytics. I've played a part in shaping its editorial direction, via several leadership roles across the globe. Starting as a reporter in London, I covered the financial services and real estate sectors for Dealreporter during the global financial crisis, including a secondment at the Financial Times. I've been based in Hong Kong and New York, with highlights including launching Mergermarket's coverage of the Asian ECM market, as well as serving as Managing Editor for Mergermarket and Dealreporter in both APAC and the Americas, overseeing large teams of over 50 journalists. More recently, I served as Chief of Staff to ION's Chief Content Officer, who I supported in strategic planning, operations and communications. I am passionate about delivering engaging, actionable content to a global audience and value collaboration, innovation and diversity in my work. I am fluent in English, French, and Spanish, and hold a B.A in History/Spanish from the University of Manchester. Prior to my financial journalism career, I wrote and published two books on historic hotels. Outside of work, I live in the west suburbs of Chicago with my wife and two children. I love to travel with my family, particularly exploring Latin America. I am a keen runner and am currently gearing up to run this year's Chicago marathon.
