Once a week, I volunteer at the RVI in Newcastle Upon tyne to deliver refreshments and meals to ward patients. I find this experience incredibly rewarding and thoroughly enjoy working hard to make a positive impact on those who need it most. This role has emphasised the importance of good listening skills when communicating with the public to make them feel truely heard which is incredibly beneficial to the relationship between patient and staff.Working in this environment puts day to day troubles into perspective and helps me apply a positive, outgoing attitude towards everything I do.

During the summer of 2023, I was fortunate enough to be selected for a life guard and camp counsellor role at Camp Starlight, Pennsylvania. As a camp counsellor, I worked with 2 colleagues to look after 10 11-year old boys for 7 week making sure bunk morale/cleanliness was maintained and meals/camp events were attended by campers. As a lifeguard, I taught swim lessons to 30+ children ranging from 7 to 11 years old and supervised the boys water front area along with my colleagues.During and outside of my day to day responsibilities, I built fantastic relationships with a range of people from all round the world and experineces many different cultures/lifestyles across the 3 month period.Ultimately, one of the most significant things I took from the experience was my ability to maintain a happy, approachable demeanour even during period of fatigue. This skill was well tested during camp as you were on the job 24/7, with 5 days off throughout the 7 week period. However, this chaotic and emotionally exhausting environment often brought out my best quality, demonstrating my ability to function well under a range of pressures.
