Designed and executed strategic management programs to senior-level executives

I designed, managed, and taught a large variety of management programs to senior-level IBM customers. Our target audience was "C-level" executives (Chief Executives, Chief Information Officers, etc.), and the focus of most programs was on investing in and managing information technology as a strategic resource. Our programs were intensely interactive and required facilitating substantial workshop activities. During this time I became one of only two IBM educators to be trained by Harvard Business School in case method teaching. I not only taught cases but authored and co-authored multiple teaching cases for our programs. I was also invited to teach cases in IBM consulting education programs. Our programs were international, and I managed and taught in a variety of European, Asian, and South Pacific locations.

I managed and taught in the program that was specifically designed to provide senior non-IT executives a working understanding of IT as a management tool. This program built communications with the most senior levels of management in IBM's largest accounts, fostering relationships with corporate and government positions that IBM did not normally call on, and thus acting as an important revenue driver for IBM. I joined the program at the beginning of the period when IT was becoming recognized as an important "strategic" resource; hence we carried the program through a significant watershed from increasing executives' technical knowledge to growing their understanding of the "intersection" of business and IT.

I designed and taught a variety of fee customer programs in IT project management and software engineering, directly using my substantial experience (described further down) in these areas. These programs not only fostered more effective use by customers of their IT resources, but directly generated revenue. Due to our location our audience was mostly from large New York area accounts, but we did draw from across the U. S.

I managed a department of application programmers supporting all of the accounting and finance applications for IBM's largest manufacturing site. In addition to ongoing support of the site controller's function, my department was responsible at the time for planning and executingthe transition from batch to online database financial applications.

I led major IT development projects for silicon microcircuit manufacturing line automation. This was the period when IBM was transitioning into computer-controlled manufacturing. The success of my projects was necessary for IBM to produce the highly sophisticated processor "chips" for mainframes of the 1970s and early 80s.

I executed process development and optimization activities in the photolithographic portion of silicon chip manufacturing.
