I am currently employed as an anthropology PhD researcher by the University of Wageningen in the Netherlands. I will be carrying out ethnographic field research in Medellin, Colombia for the "Politics of the Periphery in Urban Latin America: Reconceptualising Politics from the Margins" research programme. Previously I worked as a Research Officer for Consilient Research in Somaliland. I graduated (September 2022) from the Masters in Latin American Studies at the Centre for Latin American Research and Documentation (CEDLA) at the University of Amsterdam!For my master’s thesis, I conducted two months of independent field research in northern Mexico, studying the meaning and impact of criminal violence for community members in low-income urban neighbourhoods. The research material was produced using qualitative research techniques, primarily in-depth narrative interviewing alongside participant observation. The final written work analyses such intimate lived experiences alongside theories on social exclusion, violence, gender, transgression, and ultimately necropolitics. This work was greatly aided by the Postgraduate Certificate in Research Methods I graduated from in 2021, giving me solid foundations in both qualitive and quantitative research practices and theories.I previously studied Documentary Photography and Photojournalism, graduating from the MA program at the University of the Arts London in 2009. From 2011 to 2014 I spent almost three years photographing youth in low-income urban neighbourhoods in northern Mexico, and that work was finally published by media outlets such as CNN, Vice, L'Espresso, Foto 8, and Cuartoscuro in Mexico.
