Principal And Ceo
CurrentThe purpose of the UTC is very simple; to meet the challenges of the future we need many more talented young people coming into industry, so we provide skilled and work-ready young people for STEM careers. We give every student exciting and challenging learning experiences, leading to outstanding progress and preparing them for their future.Industry plays a critical role in economic regeneration and the skills gap identified in the rest of the North East is a challenge I’m proud to have a role in overcoming. The Aycliffe Business Park employs 10,000 people and is home to over 200 advanced manufacturing businesses; the UTC is a unique opportunity for young people to explore careers in these industries and set themselves up for their futures. Young people travel from across the North East of England to access our specialist facilities - they joined us from 45 schools from across 9 counties this year and our intake is oversubscribed for next year. The UTC education is unique - a combination of academic learning, technical skills and workplace experience which truly sets our students up for their career. My passion is helping young people work out what they want to do. Everyone who has wanted to go to university has done so - all to their first choice and all to study STEM degrees. Two thirds of our students go on to get apprenticeships, increasingly at degree level. We have created a culture in which all young people will thrive.I'm delighted to be working with our students and their parents. We have a cracking group of staff to help them on their way to fantastic future careers.
