  For about nine years, Tom has trained in, and more recently taught, karate. They are a Third-Dan blackbelt in Wado Ryu, and since 2018, has been an assistant instructor, teaching students from the ages of 5 to 50. Tom was recently given the role of instructor, and in their 4 years of experience, they have attained a deeper understanding of business strategies and the importance of education, as well as essential skills for communication, and how different relationship dynamics - such as instructor/student or vendor/customer – should be established and should function. These skills have allowed Tom to better themselves as a person, as well as de-escalate confrontations in a non-violent manner. Included in this, they have volunteered to help with multiple Summer Clubs for children aged 5 to 10, which has allowed them to improve their abilities for working with young children, as well as interactions with parents or carers.
