Tom Fanning served as chairman, president and CEO of Southern Company from 2010 - 2023. He is also a past chairman of the Conference of Chairs of the Federal Reserve Banks and the Edison Electric Institute. Under Fanning’s leadership, Southern Company constructed two state-of-the-art nuclear units in Georgia, the first new nuclear units to be built in the United States in more than 30 years. During his tenure, the company also added more than 4,000 megawatts of renewable energy and explored beyond-the-meter customer solutions.
