Tom Firth is a Calgary, Alberta-based drinks writer, consultant, and beverage judge who has been travelling the world and pulling corks for more than 25 years. His work has appeared in Avenue Magazine, City Palate (now Savour Magazine), Culinaire Magazine, CBC Radio, Up! and several international publications such as Civilta del Bere and Spanish Wine Lover. Tom has judged wines and spirits at domestic and international wine competitions around the world including the National Wine Awards of Canada, The All-Canadian Wine Championships, International Value Wine Awards, and has judged at Concours Mondial de Brussels, the Argentina Wine Awards, the Canadian Artisan Spirits Competition, and been a grand jurist at the Portuguese Wine Challenge. In 2022, Tom was instrumental in creating the Alberta chapter of the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers, and has the distinct pleasure of serving as its inaugural President. Tom is an experienced freelance writer, wine speaker, and beverage expert with a demonstrated history of working in the publishing industry. He is skilled in Food & Beverage, Market Planning, Advertising, Hospitality Industry, and Event Management. Strong media and communication professional with a B.A., B.Sc. in Psychology and Geography from The University of Calgary in addition to numerous credentials and qualifications regarding beverage alcohol. He is the Managing Editor for Culinaire Magazine, and is the Competition Director for the Alberta Beverage Awards (which celebrated its tenth year in 2022) and firmly believes that great riesling is proof the universe is unfolding as it should.
