Crucial team member using target driven research to develop a novel printed thermoelectric energy harvester. Responsible for continual innovation on substrate and device architecture, ink formulation and the fabrication process; achieved through background knowledge, subject research and investigative experimentation, often resulting in the submission of new IP.Attended national and international workshops giving well received presentations. Involved in development and testing of new materials with international collaborators. Management of the day-to-day fabrication of devices, liaising with team members, planning experiments, ensuring work completed in a timely fashion.

Initially responsible for the day to day fabrication and characterisation of OLED test devices. Quickly developed expertise in inkjet printing and other solution deposition techniques in cleanroom conditions. An indispensable team member in transitioning from rigid to flexible devices, adapting inkjet process and developing thin film metrology to work within limitations of plastic substrates.Later part of a small team that produced a proof of concept printed thermoelectric energy harvester, with individual responsibility to plan and execute experiments setting up new printing process and electro-thermal measurements.

An integral staff member, being called on to organise and lead safe lessons for groups and individuals, train and mentor assistant instructors, hire equipment to guests and undertake maintenance, both independently and within a team. Being flexible, the centre could rely on me to work 7 days a week and long hours at short notice. Building a rapport quickly with guests and adapting to different situations ensured success.

Work in a large multinational team to provide customer care in fitting skis, boots, snowboards and clothing. Required friendly, effective, varied communication to educate the customer and ensure their safety, plus flexibility within the team to achieve top-notch customer satisfaction.

Employed on short-term contract as the only chemist, to develop an easy, cheap method of detecting contamination in raw materials for use in process analysis and QC. In an industrial environment, I set up a lab with limited resources to research, develop, test and report on a wet chemistry analysis. Attention to detail was paramount to produce accurate results by reducing experimental error. With successful time management, I also worked in the process development using background knowledge and DOE to highlight key areas for focus. Adaptability, an innovative approach to problem solving and excellent communication ensured I left the company with a successful method understood by all users.

Invited to work a short-term contract in a small team on a new project developing a next generation liquid crystal mode for use in displays, I hit the ground running and was responsible for investigating mixture interactions and the use of polymer stabilisation. Taking the initiative in planning experiments and conducting optical analyses, I used a variety of techniques including polarising microscopy, UV-Vis and DOE, all requiring attention to detail to collect accurate results and explain anomalies, plus excellent time management to handle the large workload. At the end of this contract, I was invited to continue working for Merck on a long-term contract.

Forming the main project within my degree, I used liquid crystal technology to develop achromatic optical films for use in displays. In a small team, my main role was to analyse new materials and mixtures for desired properties, plus perform mixture and process development through investigative studies on topics such as surfactant use and process conditions. Typical tasks included sample preparation, spin coating, polymerisation and optical analysis, plus giving verbal and written technical reports to team members.

As part of a team of students and academics I developed a distance learning module to be delivered via the Internet to 3rd year chemistry students on placement. While developing my teaching techniques, the work involved a great deal of problem solving, innovation, team working and communication between different departments within the university.

At an American summer camp I worked as the only sailing instructor, developing an effective teaching strategy under pressure, requiring a high level of organisation and reliability. I was responsible for groups of up to 10 children whilst sailing, and a group of boys during the nights and weekends.
