Assessing the impact of whale watching encounters on blue and humpback whale populations in north Iceland

Surveying the recreational use of Húsavík by tourists, with a particular focus on whale watching

Primarily conducted fieldwork and data analysis. Roles included:-Photo-identification and behavioural monitoring of humpback whales in Skjálfandi Bay, through daily fieldwork and data analysis.-Photo-identification of white-beaked dolphins.-Assisted in fieldwork testing the effect of ‘pingers’ on humpback whales, with the aim of reducing entanglement in fishing gear. -Monitored blue whale behaviour in order to assist tagging.

Conservation Evidence is a free, authoritative information resource designed to support decisions about how to maintain and restore global biodiversity.As a Conservation Literature Researcher, I assembled a database of conservation interventions for marine mammals. Furthermore, I took part in events aimed at engaging the general public with evidence-based conservation.

Strawberry Isle Marine Research Society (SIMRS), is a non-profit organization based in Clayoquot Sound British Columbia. As an intern, I both contributed to research and to engaged with the public.
