Tom Hann is currently serving his second term as a Councillor At Large in the City of St. John’s having been elected consecutively in 2005 and most recently in 2009. He is a graduate of two Broadcast/ Communications programs and has completed four years of education in broadcast/communication management. He has also completed a large number of national and international courses in sales, marketing and advertising management. Councillor Hann has a wide ranging catalogue of experience having spent 30 years working in mainstream media managing radio and television operations. A well known on-air news and broadcasting personality, he can still be heard on the airwaves today volunteering his time with the radio station VOWR. In addition to his council duties, he also acts as a communications consultant. Councillor Hann is very active on City Council and is currently chairperson of the St. John’s Transportation Commission and chair of the Planning and Housing Standing Committee. Councillor Hann was also instrumental in the founding of the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Seniors and is Council liaison with the Development Committee. He is also active with numerous standing committees. In the community, Councillor Hann enjoys giving his time to worthwhile causes and received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for Volunteerism in 2001. Some of the committees and organizations he has been involved with include Canadian Urban Transit Association, Atlantic Association of Broadcasters, founding member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Psoriasis Society, Newfoundland and Labrador Brain Injury Association, Lions Club and Kinsmen Club. On Council, his top priorities include fiscal accountability, economic development, infrastructure investment, an open and transparent City Hall, accessibility issues and seniors issues.
