The CE MBA with Bradford University has enabled Tom to put the pioneering themes of a circular economy (CE) to good use for his company. As a result, Unusual have been recognised two years in a row by the World Economic forum in their award scheme ‘TheCirculars’.Tom represents URL as one of the core group members of the Sustainability in Production Alliance (www.sipa.org.uk) a group of live production professionals cooperating to ignite and scale up sustainable culture change within the live production and entertainment industry.He has been a keynote speaker at a number of industry events in the past 2 years such as Plasa's wellbeing and circular economy event held in 2019. He also spoke about Unusual’s circular innovations at a round table ‘Financing the circular economy’ hosted by Accenture in 2017. Tom chaired a talk on ‘Blockchain technology and the sharing economy’ as part of the EMF's Disruptive Innovation Festival (DIF2017). Recently Tom presented a discussion on systems thinking, circular innovations and Blockchain at Accenture. Prior to life at URL, Tom worked as the creative director of Community Solutions East LTD, collaborating with the UEA, devising art and drama based workshops. One such workshop (The Oil Game) was the recipient of the 2011 Norwich Eco Awards. The Oil game went on to be played by 100's of community and school groups worldwide; and featured in a film produced in Australia called 'Ten Bucks a Litre' on ABC.The circular economy as a framework can be deemed as analogous to a living system. Over the course of his studies, Tom has become increasingly passionate about the opportunity for living systems/ holistic thinking to inspire and evolve (micro & macro) economic innovations.
