Provide maintenance, support, and development of an AWS based infrastructure as well as analysis and efficiency improvements of a replicated, sharded MongoDB cluster.

Working from a pitch deck, created a functional specification, designed a data model, wrote a REST API spec, evaluated and selected a technology stack and implemented a fully functional backend. The initial stack included DynamoDB (with Vogels ODM), Node.js, Express.js, and EJS. During prototype development and evaluation, DynamoDB was replaced with MongoDB (utilizing Mongoose ODM). Also developed and served as administrator of an AWS based infrastructure to support development/qa/production environments.

Helped refine the functional specification and designed the data model and REST API implemented by a development team using the MEAN stack. Created a tiered development environment and scaffolded the backend with a notification subsystem, activity stream support, centralized logging, and an email template engine. Deployed github-based CI development and production environments on Amazon Web Services with load balanced app servers, automated deployment, monitoring, and a replicated MongoDB environment with automated stats and backup scripts. Developed Angular controllers to access API for web app functionality. Created and populated a MediaWiki based system for internal documentation.

Developed and maintained an Amazon Web Services based infrastructure to support the IT ecosystem—software development, QA, marketing and operations—including a load balanced, autoscaled production environment for the Otixo web application and associated API for mobile client support. Installed, configured and maintained OS, utilities, software and frameworks, databases and numerous support services.

Support and development of applications for Max Planck Institute for Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) research groups and administration.

Founding member of the development team for the ContentCube, a pioneer in cloud storage appliances and online services.

Lead developer of the PV-WAVE system, designed and implemented major new functionality and coordinated the efforts of the development team in meeting release schedules for 2 major and 6 minor releases.

Ported a large scale mainframe (IBM/DEC) application to a variety of Unix workstation platforms (Sun, IBM, DEC, HP); designed and implemented system level interfaces (I/O, dynamic linking, signal handling, error recovery) in C; provided technical support and created and presented introductory lectures to prospective clients.
