I have always been interested in helping companies make metal parts better, not just at less cost and faster. Achieving higher quality is my ultimate satisfaction with this job. When I graduated from college with a BS degree (mechanical engineering), my father, who had just developed and patented Bonal’s "Meta-Lax" stress relief process, encouraged me to join him and the Bonal team. He introduced me to the real potential of Meta-Lax processing – “We’ve got something here that can raise the metal working industry to a higher plain.” His big-picture vision became my life’s goal. Whenever I talk with anyone in the metal working industry, my goal is to help them produce whatever they produce, yet to a higher quality, or at less cost and faster. My specific field of expertise is solving distortion and fatigue challenges in welded and non-welded metal parts. I always promote the best solution for the application regardless if the solution uses Meta-lax or not.My background includes experience as a planer-mill machinist. I know, firsthand, the effects thermal stress has on metal. Interestingly, my twin brother, Paul, was the welder who originally tried using vibrations during welding. The original intent was to see if the need for a post-weld stress relief could be eliminated if the weldment was Meta-Lax stress relieved "during welding." He was right. BUT, in doing so, they discovered that there were several extremely important benefits to be gained, especially preventing the majority of weld distortion and weld cracking. Bonal refers to what Paul discovered as "Meta-Lax Weld Conditioning."I think I have one of the best jobs in the world because I have seen thousands of companies make metal products better, cheaper, and faster after they started using Meta-Lax! In other words, seeing my customers raise their business operations to a higher plain.I am humbled that Manufacturing Technology Insights, a trade magazine with 153,000 subscribers, named Bonal as its “Top Metal Working Company for 2022.” MTI wrote a cover story about Bonal’s Meta-Lax process in its September 2022 issue and insisted on putting a photo of me on their front cover.
