Tom has planned and managed communications for clients ranging from Indiana startups to international and Fortune 500 companies. Through his work on public- and private-sector accounts, Tom has become a pioneer in integrating advertising and public relations and has led Hirons to a leadership position in digital communications. Tom holds valued and trusted positions in business and academia, currently serving as chairman of the board of directors for the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and on the board of the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee. Tom also is a founding member of the Indiana University School of Informatics Dean’s Advisory Council and the Indiana University National Sports Journalism Center board of advisers. He is co-chair of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee (PAC) and Indiana Business for Responsive Government (IBRG), past president of the board of the American Advertising Federation (AAF) Indianapolis and has served on the board of the Better Business Bureau of Central Indiana.Before moving the agency from Bloomington to Indianapolis, Tom served as president and chairman of the board of the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, as chair of the Bloomington Chamber Legislative Council, and on the boards of the Bloomington Economic Development Corporation and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Indiana District Export Council. In the 1990s, Tom supervised and operated an office in China, working with high-profile clients including Cummins Engine and IBM. In addition to building his business to a leadership position in Indiana and his involvement in business, community and professional organizations, Tom has served for 18 years as an adjunct lecturer at Indiana University, beginning in 1989, and has held the Riley Endowed Chair at the School of Journalism. Tom also developed curricula and taught national and state certification programs for economic development professionals at two major public universities.
