Focus was on science methods, science content courses and practicum seminars. •ETEP and SMSP used the principles and philosophies of the following two education initiatives in the teaching and learning frameworks of these programs:•Project Zero (Howard Gardner’s - Theory of Multiple Intelligences).•Coalition of Essential Schools (Ted Sizer’s set of Common Principles).Program Director and Professor: The Secondary Mathematics and Science Education Program at the University of Southern Maine. This program started the fall of 1996 and was a collaboration of the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education and Human Development. September 1995-1998.Program Director: The Earth System Science Program (ESSP) at the University of Southern Maine, sponsored by NASA grant ($175,000) through the Maine Space Grant Consortium. The goal of this program was to offer K-12 teachers the opportunity to study science in an interdisciplinary context and develop science curricula 1991-1996.
