I was fortunate to form one of the largest flying-disc-sports clubs, build some of the first disc golf courses, establish some of the first Ultimate Disc leagues, produce hundreds of disc tournaments and own a flying-disc-sports mail order company. I'm grateful to have been in a position to help promote and elevate the flight of the "flying-disc" and "disc sports".

Founder/OwnerSwope Park Folf Course 1981 - 1991Kansas City, Missouri, United StatesIn 1981, I established the first Kansas City disc golf course when I entered into a "land lease agreement" with KCMO Parks & Recreation. I designed and constructed the course... and then managed and maintained the course 365 days a year for 10 years. The Swope Park Folf Course was among the best in the world due to daily management, daily maintenance and a pay-and-play structure to cover the expenses. As one of the first U.S. commercial “pay" courses, I called it FOLF because, in 1981, Ed Headrick still owned the trademark DISC GOLF™ and suggested that I pay him a 10% royalty. I ended up buying the basket targets and tee signs from Ed... but went with the name of “FOLF”... instead of paying the royalty fee and to avoid any legal issues or complications down the road. (Ed Headrick released his trademark on the term “Disc Golf” in 1983.) The Swope Park Folf Course was an invaluable learning experience for me and a great example for others. Today, Kansas City is one of the strongest disc golf communities in the world... with over 95 disc golf courses in the KC area.

(Guts, Ultimate, Freestyle, Disc Golf, Disc Dogs, Discathon, MTA, TRC, Distance, Accuracy, etc.) I released a PSA on the radio alerting players to come to Penn Valley Community College and join the KANSAS CITY FRISBEE CLUB. The year was 1976. The club met and played once or twice every week for years... both outdoors in the summertime and indoors in the wintertime. The KANSAS CITY FRISBEE CLUB was the foundation of disc-sports in KC. The rest is HISTORY.
